Rules
EAST ANGLIAN FARMERS GOLFING SOCIETY RULES - APRIL 1967
(these rules replace the provisional rules dated 22nd September 1959)
1. Rules of society
The society shall be named the East Anglian Farmers Golfing Society
2. Membership
Full membership shall be limited and confirmed to bonafide farmers who farm in the counties of Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, and Huntingdonshire, and who are members of a recognised golf club
3. Subscriptions
The annual subscription for each year ending on 30th June shall be determined by the committee and confirmed at the next annual general meeting
4. Voting
Each full member whose subscription is paid up, shall be entitled to one vote at all general meetings. A show of hands will suffice unless a poll is demanded. A simple majority will be effective and in the event of a tie, the chairman to have the casting vote
5. Honorary members
The committee shall have power to invite gentlemen, in special cases, to be honorary members of the society. They will be entitled to the privileges of the society, without payment of any subscription, but will not have power to vote or nominate at general meetings. Such membership shall be confirmed by election at the next annual general meeting
6. Honorary officers
Honorary officers shall be a president and an honorary secretary/treasurer. They shall be proposed, seconded and elected at each annual general meeting when they shall retire but be eligible for re-election from year to year. They shall enjoy the privileges of the society without payment of subscription but shall not have the power to vote at general meetings or committee meetings other than if and when necessary for the president when presiding to give a casting vote
7. Officers
The officers of the society shall be a captain and a vice-captain. The captain shall be nominated by the committee, and proposed, seconded and elected at the annual general meeting. He shall hold office until the next annual general meeting
8. Committee
The committee shall consist of the captain, vice-captain, and five elected members. Four shall be deemed a quorum. One member shall retire by rotation each year but be eligible for re-election. The affairs of the society shall be managed by the committee any casual vacancy on the committee shall be filled by the committee and any member so chosen shall retire at the following annual general meeting but shall be eligible for re-election at such annual general meeting. The committee, from time to time, may make such temporary rules as they may deem fit for the general management of the society, and deal with any matters not provided for under these rules. Any such alteration, or addition to the rules, to be confirmed at the next annual general meeting. The committee have power to co-opt not more than three members, should special circumstances decree
9. Auditors
The accounts of the society shall be audited annually
10. Competitions
Competition meetings shall be held on dates to be arranged by the committee, in addition to any special events or matches with other societies or clubs. Meetings will normally be held at courses within the defined area of the society. Terms, conditions and rules for all competitions of the society will be decided and arranged by the committee. Entrants will play off their lowest club handicap (subject to such limit which may be decided by the committee) and under the rules of the royal and ancient golf club, together with the local rules of the course
11. General meetings
The annual general meeting shall be held as soon as convenient after 30th June in each year. The date to be decided on by the committee. Extraordinary general meetings shall be called by the secretary either on instructions from the general committee or after receipt by him of a requisition writing signed by at least ten members or one-fifth of the total number of members whichever is the lowest, stating precisely the purpose for which the meeting is to be called and the resolutions to be proposed, and no other business Shall be transacted thereat. The secretary shall give at least one week’s notice of every annual or extraordinary general meeting to each member
12. Resignations
Members of the society wishing to resign must notify the hon. Secretary/treasurer in writing before 30th June each year, otherwise they will be liable for The season’s subscription
13. Matters not governed by rules
The decision of the committee shall be final in any matters not governed by the rules
14. Distribution of rules
Each member shall be supplied with a copy of these rules
15. Alterations to rules
Any proposed alterations or amendments to these rules shall be made in writing to the hon. Secretary three weeks before the annual general meeting, signed by at least two members, or alternatively at an extraordinary general meeting convened under rule eleven
